My intuitions were somewhat correct

At the beginning of the quarter, in my first journal, I wrote that the purpose of schooling is to create an environment that is fun and interactive that makes kids want to learn. I felt that teachers should help students become global citizens through teaching core subjects, but also through socialization and loving care. Each student needs support to be able to succeed and strive to learn more. It is important to help students understand the common aspects of life along with responsibility. Students should think critically about each subject with respect to want to learn more. Teacher have purpose to create diverse environment to learn about each individual and their own culture.

Now at the end of the quarter, I feel that my intuitions were right, but there are also things that need to be addressed while still teaching about the core subjects. These include community building, social relationships, race, poverty, and many more. It is important to focus on interdisciplinary approaches and educating students about the everyday issues with in society. The purpose of schools should be to create an inclusive classroom that promotes untracked formats. Teachers need to get to know their students in order to build community and trust. There are many ways to interpret the purpose of schooling, but there was a general consensus in the classroom that all of these things together create the purpose of schooling.
